GEAA Vehicle Guidelines
PrefaceNOTE: The following are guidelines for what is generally acceptable in GEAA member vehicles used for GEAA touring and GEAA events. The object is not to ostracize or penalize any person for non-compliance. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide uniformity regarding what a GEAA vehicles are and how they should look and perform.
1) Hydraulic Brakes:
Hydraulic brakes are allowed on any vehicle not originally equipped with them as long as the installation of hydraulic brakes does not require changing the wheels or the appearance of the car.
2) Sound System:
The use of a modern radio or CD/Tape player is allowed as long as the unit and speakers are mounted in such a manner that it does not harm the original dashboard or interior of the vehicle.
3) Color Schemes:
There are no restrictions on vehicle colors as long as the effect is pleasing and appropriate to the era of the vehicle.
Note: Metallic paints on early vehicles is discouraged.
4) Engines:
Restorers are encouraged to preserve or locate original engine styles and years. However, alternative power plants are allowed, using an engine of a similar type within the same family make.
Examples: Ford flathead V8s in Fords will fit from 1932 to 1953. Mopar engines will fit from 1933 to 1959. Similar close matches are possible with other makes.
Engine swapping of Non-Family engines is discouraged.
5) Transmissions:
Improved versions of original type transmissions are acceptable. Add-on overdrives are acceptable.
6) Bodies:
Modified or hand-crafted bodies on derelict vehicles are allowed, provided materials available during era of the vehicles manufacture are employed.
Examples: Many automobiles were made into attractive pickups. Speedster and boat-tail bodies were often skillfully crafted onto derelict chassis. Derelict cars were often turned into racers and speedsters using materials of the period.
7) Accessories: Period accessories are acceptable.
Examples: Turn signals, driving lights, cigar lighters, clocks, bud vases, robe rails and gadgets that were available during the era of the cars manufacture or shortly thereafter.
The accessories should be either authentic or of a type that blends well with the style of vehicle.
